Director of Emergency Department – Central/South Texas | Relocation Assistance Available

Required Experience

Qualified candidates should have:

•       Minimum of 5 years of acute care nursing experience

•       3–5 years of progressively responsible management experience in a hospital ED environment as a manager or director

•       A strong history of operational leadership including staffing, throughput, budgeting, and quality improvement

•       Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and senior leadership

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have:

•       Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university (Master’s Degree in Nursing, Business, or related field preferred)

•       Current and valid Texas State Registered Nurse license

Key Responsibilities

In this role, the Director of Emergency Department will be responsible for:

•       Directing daily operations of the Emergency Department, including staffing, patient flow, throughput, and departmental efficiency

•       Developing and implementing departmental goals, policies, and procedures in alignment with organizational and regulatory standards

•       Recruiting, hiring, orienting, evaluating, and developing ED nursing and support staff, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence

•       Monitoring and managing departmental budgets, including labor, supplies, and capital expenditures

•       Collaborating with physicians, hospitalists, and interdisciplinary teams to optimize patient outcomes and satisfaction

•       Ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and Joint Commission regulatory requirements

•       Leading quality improvement initiatives, monitoring key performance indicators, and implementing corrective action plans as needed

•       Serving as a visible and engaged leader during high-census periods, crises, and emergency activations

•       Partnering with senior leadership on strategic planning, service line growth, and community health initiatives

•       Maintaining current knowledge of emergency nursing best practices, trends, and technology
