Job Description
Director of Design – Commercial Foodservice Design Consulting
We have an Outstanding position for a Director of Design (DD) in the Western Region. The Director of Design is responsible for leading and managing a segment of the Foodservice Design practice, including people leadership, project performance, quality control, and financial outcomes.
The Director of Design translates strategy into execution, ensuring teams deliver consistent, high-quality work while developing staff and maintaining profitability. This role is a remote position within the Western Region with preference for candidates located in CA.
This role reports to the Vice President of Design.
Key Responsibilities
Design Leadership & Project Oversight
• Serve as Project Executive or senior Project Manager on complex or high-risk projects.
• Oversee design quality, constructability, and compliance across assigned teams.
• Ensure best practices are followed throughout all design phases.
Team Leadership & Mentorship
• Lead and mentor Design Project Managers.
• Conduct performance reviews and support career development.
• Balance workloads and deploy staff effectively across projects.
Financial & Operational Management
• Monitor project performance, staffing utilization, and profitability.
• Guide PMs in managing scope, fees, billing, and AR exposure.
• Identify and address operational inefficiencies.
Marketing & Client Development
• Support proposal strategy, client presentations, and relationship development.
• Serve as a visible industry leader and internal subject-matter expert.
• Collaborate with Marketing on targeted outreach and thought leadership.
Risk & Process Improvement
• Identify potential claims or scope risks and escalate appropriately.
• Improve workflows, QC processes, and documentation standards.
Qualifications
• 10+ years of foodservice design experience.
• Proven people management and project leadership skills.
• Strong financial and operational understanding.
• FCSI Professional membership required.
