Job Description

Director of Risk Management - Beautiful Southwestern Location in New Mexico!

The Opportunity

  • We're looking for an experienced Director of Risk Management to lead the full risk program at a 200-bed acute care hospital and its affiliated clinics in the Southwestern United States. Reporting directly to the Chief Nursing Officer, this leader will be the point person for spotting risk early, working with it before it becomes a bigger problem, and building fixes that actually hold — teaming up with hospital leadership, physicians, and front-line staff along the way.
  • This role also carries the hospital through litigation when it arises — running point on investigations, interviews, depositions, and legal hold requests in step with legal counsel — and doubles as the facility's Compliance and Ethics Officer. Candidates relocating for the role can expect support with the move.

Benefits

•     Relocation support

•     Medical, dental, and vision coverage, with flexible-spending and health-savings account options

•     Generous PTO plus an extended illness bank for full-time employees

•     Life, accident, and critical-injury insurance, along with short- and long-term disability and identity-theft coverage

•     Tuition reimbursement, student loan support, and a 401(k) match

•     An employee assistance program covering mental, physical, and financial wellbeing

•     Real room to grow professionally within the organization

Required Experience

•     At least 5 years in nursing, 3 of which were spent leading as a Director or Manager

•     Hands-on risk management background; acute care risk experience can stand in for the leadership requirement above

•     For-profit hospital experience is a strong plus

•     Having served at the Director level before is preferred

Required Qualifications

•     An active RN license valid for the state where this role is based (multistate/compact accepted)

•     A Bachelor's degree from an accredited nursing program

•     CPHRM certification is a plus coming in, and must be earned within the first 3 years on the job

Key Responsibilities

•     Spot, prevent, and manage risk hospital-wide by working hand-in-hand with leadership, physicians, and front-line staff to put fixes in place that last

•     Steer the hospital through litigation — investigations, interviews, depositions, and legal hold requests — in coordination with legal counsel

•     Train hospital leaders, providers, and staff on the risk program and how to report incidents

•     Run the risk management program across the hospital and its affiliated clinics

•     Advise on informed consent, documentation, disclosure practices, and professional liability exposure

•     Manage the hospital's professional liability, general liability, and property insurance and claims

•     Serve as the facility's Compliance and Ethics Officer
