Job Description
Special Imaging – MRI Supervisor – Academic Medical Center – Dallas, TX
The Opportunity
A large academic medical center in Dallas is looking for a working MRI Supervisor (a Lead MRI Technologist or MRI Lead Tech role) to help lead its Special Imaging team over all MRI procedures. This is a hands-on leadership role. You'll split your time between scanning and coaching, scheduling, and developing an experienced team of 13 MRI technologists. The department runs four scanners (three GE, one Siemens) and cares for inpatient, outpatient, ICU, NICU, emergency, and trauma patients.
You'll work closely with the Imaging Director and radiology team, step in as department liaison whenever the manager is out, and have real input into staffing, policy, and how the unit runs day to day.
The schedule is full-time days with some flexibility, generally between 7:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. Call is light: a rotating holiday schedule, plus backup call about every six weeks for roughly four days, used only when the night technologist is out sick or on PTO. You'll need to live within 60 minutes of the hospital.
Supervisory skills such as timekeeping and attendance, coaching and corrective action, and project management can be developed on the job, as can Brainlab intraoperative experience.
Compensation and Benefits
- $41 to $64 per hour, based on experience
- Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance (as applicable)
- Immediate eligibility for health and welfare benefits
- 401(k) savings plan with a dollar-for-dollar match up to 5%
- Tuition reimbursement
- PTO accrual beginning on day one
Required Experience
- Graduate of an accredited MRI program
- 3+ years of MRI experience in a high-volume, high-acuity setting covering inpatient, outpatient, ICU, NICU, emergency, and trauma patients (outpatient-only backgrounds will not be a fit)
- 2+ years of current leadership experience in a multi-scanner MRI department, with specifics you can speak to, such as the staff you oversaw, MRSO duties, building or adjusting protocols on the fly, image quality and equipment troubleshooting, and training new technologists
- Hands-on experience researching and safely scanning patients with pacemakers and other complex implantable devices, as well as patients requiring sedation
- Working knowledge of MRI-conditional ventilators and IV pumps, and of Zone 4 code response procedures
Required Qualifications
Required:
- BLS certification within 30 days of hire/transfer
- Certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (ARRT-MR) or Radiography (ARRT-R), or through the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
Preferred:
- Experience with cardiac MRI studies
- Brainlab intraoperative experience
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day imaging operations, keeping exams accurate, timely, and cost-efficient while staying compliant with regulatory and system standards, and step in to perform exams as workload requires
- Manage staffing levels, schedules, and resources so the department runs smoothly around the clock
- Interview, coach, train, and evaluate staff, and keep certifications and competencies current across the team
- Set and track team goals, fold them into performance reviews, and champion participation in employee and patient satisfaction initiatives
- Partner with leadership on department budgeting, equipment needs, and corrective action for productivity or expense variances
- Champion a culture of service excellence and patient-centered care, holding the team accountable to those standards
- Serve as a liaison between Radiology and other departments, building relationships with physicians and helping shape policies and procedures
- Help ensure the department stays compliant with Joint Commission and other accrediting body standards
- Lead or participate in committees and initiatives focused on patient safety, quality improvement, and process improvement, including LEAN and 5S projects
