Job Description

Automation & Industry 4.0 Manager

Key Responsibilities

• Lead automation and Industry 4.0 initiatives that improve operational performance, system reliability, productivity, and quality.

• Oversee the design, implementation, integration, and optimization of automation systems, including PLCs, SCADA, HMI, MES, sensors, and connected industrial devices.

• Partner with engineering, operations, maintenance, quality, and IT teams to align automation projects with business goals and production requirements.

• Drive digital transformation efforts such as real-time visibility, predictive maintenance, data collection, industrial analytics, and smart factory connectivity.

• Develop and manage project plans, timelines, budgets, vendors, and technical resources for automation upgrades and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Establish and maintain standards for controls architecture, documentation, change management, system validation, and operational support.

• Monitor system performance and analyze production or equipment data to identify opportunities for improvement, troubleshooting, and risk reduction.

• Support cybersecurity, safety, compliance, and data integrity requirements across automation and operational technology environments.

• Coach and develop technical teams, operators, or site leaders on automation tools, troubleshooting practices, and evolving Industry 4.0 capabilities.

• Promote a culture of innovation, collaboration, continuous improvement, and technology adoption across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, automation, mechatronics, manufacturing, industrial technology, computer science, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.

• Several years of progressive experience in industrial automation, controls engineering, manufacturing systems, process engineering, or digital operations leadership.

• Strong knowledge of automation platforms, control systems, industrial networks, and smart manufacturing technologies.

• Experience leading cross-functional projects involving automation upgrades, systems integration, or operational technology transformation.

• Ability to translate business needs into practical automation solutions that improve efficiency, quality, and scalability.

• Familiarity with industrial data collection, analytics, digital reporting, and continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma preferred.

• Strong communication, leadership, vendor management, problem-solving, and organizational skills required.

Work Environment

This role may support manufacturing plants, distribution operations, processing facilities, or multi-site industrial environments depending on organizational needs. Schedule expectations, travel requirements, team structure, and scope of responsibility may vary by opening.
